Well friends, Week 39 marked the week that Mateo was destined to make his early arrival, which might explain why I've been noticeably absent on this blog. This week started off as a normal pregnant week for me: feeling no significant symptoms and wondering how and when Mateo would decide to make his presence known.
In the end it was not Mateo's decision, but the doctor's after my prenatal appointment revealed that I was walking around already 5cm dilated and feeling as normal as any pregnant woman could. That same day, December 13, 2011, I waltzed into the birth center and my water was broken around 7:30-8pm. By 11:16 pm and after only 15 mins of actual pushing, Mateo was born weighing 7 lbs, 9oz and 20-in long. We couldn't be happier with our new bundle of joy!
I've been planning to record a vlog about the birth story, but I've been in non-stop motion while recuperating from the labor, and now with 2 children there's never a dull moment, or even just a moment for that matter, to be able to record a little something. But I know I eventually will. For right now, I'm taking advantage of this midnight moment where the two boys are actually sleeping to write on this blog.
If you're wondering about Diego's reaction, he was first confused and scared seeing the little alien-looking animal. After Dada told him it was OK and allowed him to touch his brother, he began to smile (possibly realizing the alien was actually human). And now he says, or at least it sounds like he says, "brother" when I'm holding Mateo. Imagine that. The boy who barely wants to speak is saying "brother" after just a few days!
Please welcome our 2011 Christmas present: Mateo: "Gift from God"!
Almost back to my old self, except the 2 children part! - Shirley
