Fashion Friday 18 Jan 2013

I haven't done one of these in awhile.  I've honestly not been feeling very fashionable.  But I find that taking pictures of myself (so vain!) in my outfits has really helped me see what does and doesn't work on me.  It's also helped me stick to a healthy diet this week.  Today is Friday aka: Forgotten-Fast-Food-Friday (sadface).

Instead of my usual McDonald's treat, my mom has offered me a home-cooked meal when I drop Diego off after his speech therapy.  I'll take it!

I bought the blouse below for $13 on clearance at Target.  I don't usually wear blouses, but I'm trying to add some variety here.  I added one of my favorite rustic neclaces and didn't bother to do my hair a messy bun.  I liked the change for a day.

Then there's the pic below.  I totally didn't want to get dressed that morning.  Do you have those comfy go-to pants that you always gravitate towards?  For me it's these old, worn-in Paige jeans.  But now that I took this pic, they're obviously too warn-in.  Time for a new pair of go-to jeans!  These can stay as house-loungers until I eventually throw them out.  In order to dress up this blah-outfit, I added an arm-patched blazer recently gifted to me from my sister's cleaned-out closet.  I just love the arm-patch detail!

Happy Fashion Friday!!!!  Man am I tired.  I don't want to think about outfits this weekend, but we're having a party at our house tomorrow.  So maybe next week there'll be a little something on here other that what I wore to work!

I just love the feeling of being securely strapped in.  That's why my clothes are often tight and my boots are even tighter!

Um yeah - totally slacking on my laundry so I was forced to look presentable at work!  LOL.

I'm still totally in love with this shirt, and paired with my worn-out knee-high boots  and one of my fave necklaces, and I was totally comfy-cozy this day.

Fashion Friday 7/13/2012 - Lil' Dude Threads

My little dude looks better than me this morning so I decided to revolve this Fashion Friday post around him a bit.  Since fate gave this mother a second little boy, I've decided that spending a little more of my monies on "cuter" boy clothes is now somehow more acceptable.  I know these threads will one day be handed down to Mateo so I can spend a little more.  I still plan to shop consignment, but it gets harder to find good stuff as your "baby" morphs into a toddler and then, gasp! A kid...

Spending was temporarily on hold for me as I tried to pay off debt from our house remodel, and we started spending on our vacation trip.  Then I got this little doosey in the mail, and I CRACKED!

I had been so good at resisting an urge to shop, and then a letter like this comes along telling me that I'm even more in the hole than I thought!  This might sound counter-intuitive but since I was already in the hole, and since the installment plan (lasting 4 months) doesn't start until next month, I decided to just give into my shopping urge now before things get even worse.

So off to Mommy Disneyland Nordstrom Rack I went, and came back home with these threads. 

Most of these clothes I found in the clearance section but a few things (like the shoes and pants) were worth spending a bit more money on.  I debated on the white shirt because it wasn't his usual style, but then I thought:  That's the point!  Plus it helped that "28" is my birthday number.  I considered it a sign.  Ps.  Diego is really into Dino Dan on Nick Jr.  He watches it over and over On Demand, and I need to explain to him that there are other cool shows out there!

Walking into the store my goal was to buy myself accessories only (thrift first for clothes), and I failed when I saw this Vince Camuto dress.  It screamed "Take me home!"  So I did..  Maybe next Friday I'll have pics of me actually wearing it.

Fashion Friday: Vacation Romp

While I go through my 100s of vacation photos to choose the top 10, would you settle for a vacation pic for Fashion Friday?  I tried to wear something I never dared before: a romper.  I'll admit although I wish I could be trendy, I feel like such a doofus when I actually follow through.  I'm hit with these feelings where I think, "Oh God!  Everyone must be thinking:  what is that lanky boy wearing?".  I'm too tall and skinny and have no curves.

I tried on this romper before I went on vacation and only felt a little awkward in it, so I threw it in my luggage wondering if my mind would change during our flight to Mexico.  I decided to wear it while visiting ruins.  I wouldn't be swimming that day, so a romper made sense for this type of activity.  I paired the romper with a natural toned belt, comfy walking shoes, and chandelier earrings.  Suddenly, the outfit was transformed and I was actually very surprised when I reviewed the pictures on my camera.  Not bad!  Fashion success!  And I wasn't even expecting it.

Fashion Friday 6/15/2012

Hey guys!  I'm going to be MIA on the Fashion Friday front for the next 2 Fridays.  I'll be vacationing with the fam in Cancun Mexico!  Finally!  Instead of reading everyone's vacation blog posts lately, I'll be living my own.  Stay tuned for a Fashion Friday post-vacation post when I return!  My sister's giveaway haul continued on into this week!

Weekend look staying at home.  If I don't go anywhere, then it's all about my pink slipper boots.  It was really hot this past weekend so I work shorts and a shirt compliments of my sister's closet.

Fashion Friday 06/08/2012

When did the roles reverse before my very eyes?  At some point, instead of my little sister receiving my hand-me-downs, I am now receiving her hand-me-ups.  She's a shop-a-holic and thinks of me when she cleans out her closet.  I scored a mountain of stuff from her this week, and have been trying "new" outfits on for size as the week has gone by. I like to think of her as my personal stylist. Ha!

When I get a craving to shop, I've made a mental note to turn to thrift stores first before I turn to Nordstrom Rack or the internet to start saving a little money.  After all, I have two little mouths to feed, remodel bills to pay, and I find thrifting to be fun.  But with all these hand-me-ups, my sister has probably satisfied my craving for clothes-shopping for the next few months.  So instead, I went onto Etsy and ordered a beautiful turquoise necklace (not the one in the picture below - a different one).  Can't wait until it gets here!

Sister's Forever 21 Shirt, and I added a little poof to my hair. 

Basically this whole outfit is my sister's including the Jessica Simpson flats.  The only thing mine is the necklace and my body of course!  I like the blazer, it's a satin-y material.

Again - Everything is my sister's except for the pants.

Not thrilled about today's outfit but it is comfy.  The shirt is from my sister's stash.  I used the no-heat sock bun method to curl my hair today.

My sleepy eyes can't hide the fact that I was up nursing the baby at least four times last night :(

This fashion Friday will be more of an Ode to Makeup.  Specifically my favorite eye makeup:  Urban Decay.  What's there more to say?  I love the dramatic colors, color payoff, and long wear of Urban Decay eye makeup.

As a testament, just look at my 24/7 Kohl Eyeliner that I've had before Diego was even born (2 1/2 years People!).  I use that stuff on my water line every day because every other makeup brand I tried would smudge by the end of the day, which bugged the crap out of me!  This doesn't.  It's truly the best eye pencil.  You know when you need to replace your eye pencil when the pencil is too small to fit in the sharpener and is smaller than its own cap!

Since it was time to order a replacement, I took the liberty give their liquid liner a try.  From all my photos, is it any question that I LOVE liquid eyeliner?  I wanted something dramatic instead of a boring black.  Inspired by this photo I decided to go with Siren.  Boy was I happy!

So I happened upon a Groupon for makemechic.com and immediately knew it was a no-brainer:  I HAD to buy the Groupon!  This website has some cute stuff and it's affordable!  Think: Forever 21.  Here are a few things I'd really like to buy:

I'm not sure why but I wanted to dress a bit more professional this week (Except today, you know on Friday's I run my errands)  Here are a few of this week's outfits:

Took a cue from last week and wore my pointy-toed flats.  Two blisters later I totally regretted it.  Also, I think it was too soon to wear this top.  It's skin tight and not very forgiving if you've recently had a baby.  So I spent my work day self-consciously sucking it in!

I'd have to say this was my fave outfit this week.  I felt so put-together and everything fit me right in all the right places!

I really like tops with loose, flowing arms but can never figure out what kind of coat to wear.  Today a Peruvian poncho will just have to do (No arms: Problem solved!).  It's been super windy in the Bay Area.   Hey!  If people can wear ponchos to be stylish, then why do I just feel like a typical Peruvian in it?

Fashion Friday: 05/18/2012

A few Fashion Friday's ago, someone shared the Winter Kate Kamala Burnt Orange Maxi dress, which I immediately fell in love with.  One- because I truly think if I had a BFF it would be Nicole Richie and Two- because if you know me,  you know I LOVE burnt orange.

I have an upcoming planned trip to Cancun Mexico (Insert happy face!) and I've been window shopping for some potential cute outfits.  Unfortunately, I don't have an extra $300 laying around to spend on a Winter Kate dress (nor would I even if I had money) only for it to get covered in sand or for the booze from my Yarda to spill on it.  But $20 for a Forever 21 dress?  Now that'll work for me!

I'm thinking this'll be fun to wear on the Pirate Cruise.  I'm also digging the turquoise necklace! 

On a side note, here's what I'm wearing today.  Something half-dressy, comfy casual while I run my Friday errands.  PS.  I barely had time to comb my hair this morning.... KIDS!

The pinstriped blazer is BCBG and the MSRP ticket was at $278, I stole it at Nordstrom Rack for 30 bucks!  I have a thing for blazers... cheap designer ones-- even better!  I probably should've worn my pointy toed flats but these are more comfy for the running around I'll be doing today.

Fashion Friday 5/11/2012 - Juicy Flaws

I was sick the previous week and also just plain uninspired when it came to fashion these past couple of weeks.  It probably has something to do with the tight purse strings that I've had lately as we try to finish our house remodel  (no shopping sprees.  Boo!).  If you're wondering, this is my excuse for being MIA on the fashion front and why I'm only sharing 2 looks this week.

It was hot in the Bay Area this week and something inspired me to be brave and show off one of my flaws:  My boney ankles!  God how I hate them.  I normally only wear these jeans with knee high boots, but you know what?  I've seen worse ankles!  Maybe it's not so bad.  I probably shouldn't have worn such a ruffley/bulky top which was dis-proportioned against my super slender bottom.  Fashion lesson learned.  I probably should've also painted my toenails, but while having a baby in the house, the painting of nails has gone completely out the window :(

This is me today.  I need something comfy on Fridays because I spend my lunch running errands which includes taking my toddler to his speech therapy appointment.  Enter black ballerina flats.  The jacket is Juicy Couture which I have never worn and has been gathering dust in my closet for over a year!  I bought it at my fave: Nordstrom Rack for 40% off the last marked price and paid 80 big ones for it.  The heart necklace is Coach.  I guess today I'm rockin' somewhat of a designer-brand look!

Did you know that insulated wine sleeves are a fashionable way to discreetly store milk for a working mom on the go?  Neither did I!

Week started off pretty boring if you ask me.

Might not look so great, but this was my fave outfit this week. If I could have a celebrity BFF it would be Nicole Richie for sure.  The more boho, the better.

I wish I could be the girl who wears hoop earrings 80% of the time, but I always forget to put them on!

Purple and yellow.  Going a little bold on a Friday :)

Tomorrow is slated to be an awesome 80-degree California day!  I might just take the plunge and wear a skirt or dress to the zoo with my boys  :)

Mama's Fashion Fridays

It's been a hot minute since I even wanted to think about fashion.  I tried my best to stay "looking cute" during Mateo's pregnancy, but the words "pregnancy" and "looking cute" could only be combined for so long.  Now that I've rejoined the working world, there is a need for me to play "dress up" again.  I plan to post a little something about fashion or beauty every Friday (mostly to keep me on my own personal fashion track), so stop by on Fridays for a little beauty fix!

Here are the outfits I chose to wear on my first week back to work (I started on Wednesday, so I only had a 3-day week.  Nice!).  You'll notice that I really love to shop at Nordstrom Rack and lately I've been into thrifting AND that I don't wear skirts and dresses, though I try to every Blue Moon.
